Calvin "Butch" Wayne Ferguson

May 9, 1952 - March 8, 2024

Calvin W. “Butch” Ferguson, 71, formerly of Goodview, Virginia, went to be the Lord on Friday, March 8, 2024. Born in Roanoke, Va. on May 9, 1952, to the late Roy S. and Rosalie Burnette Ferguson, he is also preceded in death by a daughter, Megan E. Ferguson; brother, Roy D. “Punky” Ferguson, and nephew-in-law, Michael H. Brightwell, Jr.

Butch grew up in the Garden City area of Roanoke County and was a 1970 graduate of William Byrd High School and a star baseball player for the Terriers. Butch proudly served the Roanoke City Fire Department for 30 years until his retirement in 2004, ranked as a Lieutenant Firefighter. In his spare time, he enjoyed being outdoors and casting a rod and reel. He retired to Goodview in Bedford County until illness and stroke placed him in a skilled nursing care facility.

Those left to cherish his memory are his sister-in-law, Faye H. Ferguson; niece, Tina W. Brightwell; great-nephew, Michael H. Brightwell, III; sister, Deborah F. Chattin and husband, Steve; nephew, Mark Chattin; niece, Jennifer Cruz and husband, Tony; great-niece, Stella Cruz; as well as a brother, Billy Ferguson and his partner, Lorraine B. Hickerson and niece, Katie A. Ferguson.

The family will welcome friends for a time of visitation on Thursday, March 14, 2024, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Goodview Baptist Church, 1057 Grace Court, Goodview, Va., 24095. A funeral service with Fire Department honors will begin at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Joey Phillips officiating. Interment with Last Call Bell ceremony immediately following in Goodview Baptist Church Cemetery.
