They married on October 6, 1956. After Dallas finished his Navy career they moved back to Penticton, British Columbia. Dallas became interested in family genealogy and contacted the Danville Genealogy Office for help. The lady responding recognized his name and verified he was a student from Schoolfield High School. She invited him to the school reunion that same year, and this was the start of the trips back to Danville, each year bringing Carol with him. During this period, they moved from Penticton to Florida where they fell in love with a little neighbor girl, named Amanda. Through social media, Amanda located Carol this past week, and came to see her.Following a second hurricane while visiting their home in Florida, and standing at the barricaded door, Dallas said, “Carol, go to Danville and find us a place to live; we are going home”. So, she did, eventually moving to Brown Lane where they enjoyed neighbors that Carol called “the best”, especially Lee and Frances Glasgow. As an animal mom, her dogs were a great comfort to her after Dallas’ death. When her health deteriorated, she moved to Bright Leaf Assisted Living, embracing a new lifestyle. She was titled “Ambassador” and wore her badge proudly as she made new friends. She loved the staff and was grateful for their kind and caring service.Carol was a member of Schoolfield Baptist Church and had been member of several civic organizations while living in other cities. She requested “No funeral; just bury me with my Sailor”, so she will rest with Dallas at Danville National Cemetery. In remembrance of Carol, she desired that donations be made to Schoolfield Baptist Church, 12 Schoolfield Dr., Danville, VA 24541.
