Carol Wheeling Smith

May 9, 1947 - February 29, 2024

Carol Wheeling Smith, 76, of Christiansburg, Va., had a happy and peaceful death at home February 28, 2024.  She was preceded in death by her infant son, Michael Lowman, her parents, William Howard Wheeling and Sadie Vest, husband, Robert “Bob” Smith, and sister, Patricia Bryant.  Her survivors include son, John Lowman (Beth), granddaughter, Elizabeth, stepson, Brian Canode (Ginger), and stepsister, Carol Trigg (Bud).  In her final days, she was also with other special family and friends, including her niece, Brittany, friends and neighbors, Amy and Granville, Julie, Linda, Dean, and Connie, stepdaughters, Kim and Julie, and the staff of Good Samaritan Hospice and Cindy’s Compassion Care.

Carol spent her early adulthood as a devoted wife and mother; later, she worked and retired from Kollmorgen Inland Motor, remarried, became a “social butterfly,” active in the Moose Lodge, VFW, card and Bible study groups, and volunteer at her local hospital.  She was a long-time member of Dublin United Methodist Church and later Riverview Baptist Church.

Those close to her will remember her contagious smile, sparkle in her eyes, deep faith, hope in eternal life, and love of God, family, and friends.

She requested donations be made in her memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
