Carolyn Cox Holcombe

Carolyn Cox Bennett Holcombe, 80, of Dry Fork, VA passed away Friday, December 15, 2023. Mrs. Holcombe was born October 4, 1943, in Danville, VA to the late Milburn “Droopy” Cox and the late Della Thurman Cox.

Carolyn was a member of Schoolfield Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir and was a graduate of George Washington High School. She retired from the Ballou Park Post Office as the Postmaster. She loved reading, crafts, painting, photography, and the outdoors, especially birds and wildlife.

She is survived by her husband of 45 years, James “Hokum” Holcombe; sons, Michael Bennett (Stephanie) of Blairs, VA, and Brian Bennett (Julie) of Chatham, VA; stepdaughters, Karen Shields (Denny), Susan Emerson, and Jeanie Moore (Bob); grandchildren, Jordan Bennett, Garrett Bennett, Amber Farthing (Goldy), and James Shields (Olivia); sister, Judy Luther (Kerry); sister-in-law, Susan Cox Humphries; numerous nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren; and her special pets.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by sons, Mark Edward Bennett, and Joseph “Joey” Linwood Bennett; sisters, Susan Cox Smith, and Patricia Cox Akers; and brother, Denny Cox.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at Schoolfield Baptist Church, 12 Schoolfield Dr., Danville, VA 24541 with Pastor David Turbyfill officiating. The family will receive friends following the memorial service.
