Carolyn Mae Carr

April 4, 1937 - September 17, 2024

Carolyn Mae Carr (née Godaire), a resident of Kings Grant, was born on April 4, 1937 in Easthampton, Massachusetts to Paul Godaire and Helen Ezyk, together with her identical twin sister and best friend Carol Ann. She was a graduate of Easthampton High School class of 1955 where she also excelled as a tennis player. She was a graduate of the Providence Hospital School of Nursing in Holyoke, Mass and became a registered nurse. She married Raymond Joseph Carr in 1962 in Northampton, Massachusetts and worked as a nurse at Providence Hospital, Bay State Medical Center and Wesson Women’s Clinic while she and Raymond raised three children in Springfield, Massachusetts. Carolyn and family moved to Martinsville, Virginia in 1972. There she was first employed as a nursing instructor at Patrick Henry Community College. She later became school nurse for the Martinsville City School system and retired in 1999 after 22 years of service. She was a faithful and consistent communicant of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Carolyn was a beautiful and gentle soul, vivacious and blessed with quick wit and a sharp mind. She was devoted to her faith, husband, children, friends, profession and community. Even in the face of hardship and personal challenges she always reminded us that, “God is good”.

She was predeceased by her parents and her brothers Paul and Richard. She is survived by her husband Raymond Carr of Martinsville, son Todd and his wife Tori of Alexandria, son Tony and his wife Tara of Brookfield, CT and daughter Lisa and husband Dru Baker of Greensboro, NC. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Domenic Carr and wife Sofia of Alexandria, Carmen Baker of Atlanta, Madeline Baker of Huntersville, NC and Francesco, Annabella, Antonio and Angelina of Brookfield, CT. She is also survived by her identical twin sister Carol Miller of Enterprise, AL and many nieces, and nephews.

A Requiem Mass for Carolyn will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Martinsville at 3 PM on Thursday, 19 September.
