Carolyn Matheny Ruiz

Carolyn Lee Matheny Ruiz, age 74, of 104 Walton Church Lane, Lot H, Clifton Forge, Virginia passed away on Thursday, July 11, 2024 at Lewis Gale Medical Center in Salem, Virginia.
Carolyn was born on March 8, 1950 in Elko, Nevada to the late Robert and Esther Krimm Matheny. She was a Cashier Clerk for Stop In stores, and attended St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Carolyn enjoyed crochet, and loved to read and write. She especially loved her cats.
Carolyn is survived by two daughters, Susy Unroe (Chris) of Clifton Forge and Olivia Woodson of Millboro; six grandchildren, Brittany Downer (Cody), Ashley Woodson (Will Reid), Samantha Woodson, Anthony Woodson, Brooklyn Unroe, and Jase Simmons; and three great grandchildren, Skylar Downer, Alexis Downer, and Brantley Downer.
In keeping with her wishes, her body has been cremated. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 24, 2024 at 6:00 PM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend David Hanks officiating. The family will visit with friends that Wednesday evening from 5:00 PM until the time of service at Nicely Funeral Home.
The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions in Carolyn’s memory to the Alleghany Humane Society, 9313 Rich Patch Road, Covington, VA 24426.
