Carroll Douglas Payne

Carroll Douglas Payne, 85, went to be with his Lord and Savior on April 29, 2026. Carroll was born in Pittsylvania County, VA on October 25, 1940 to the late Bessie Ragsdale Payne and the late Samuel C. Payne Sr. Carroll married Sylvia A. Payne on March 16, 1968, who survives at the residence.

His son, Mark D. Payne predeceased him on February 10, 2006. His sister, Doris Payne Cowins, predeceased him as well.

He is survived by his granddaughter, Kaela Shae Payne, and one brother; Sammy C. Payne Jr., and wife Sally.

Carroll was an active member at Mount Hermon Baptist Church, where he enjoyed serving in several compacities. He honorably served his country in the Unites States Army. He was employed as Plumbing Manager at Saunders Building Supply. Upon his retirement, he worked part time alongside his wife at Hajoca Corporation.

Carroll was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was witty, funny, and loved spending time with family and friends.

A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted on Saturday, May 2, 2026 at 2:00pm at Norris Mt. Hermon Chapel, Danville, VA with Pastor Steve Chromy officiating. A visitation will be held prior to the service from 1-2:00pm also at Norris Mt. Hermon Chapel. At other times the family will be at the residence.
