Carter Mason Coffey

December 7, 1949 - September 1, 2024

On Sunday evening, September 1, 2024, Carter Mason Coffey, age 74, took his final breathe here on earth and ran into the arms of Jesus where he was met by his mother and father, Alfred R. and Mae Coffey, brother and best friend, Floyd Coffey, sister, Wanda Simpson, brother-in-law, Bud Siler, nephews, Jake Siler and Brian Coffey; niece, Lauren Thomas; and great-nephews, Justin Rhodes and Cody Simmons. He leaves behind five daughters, Stephanie Fridley (Randall), Tonya Coffey, Kara Rowan (Joseph), Kaitlyn DiGregorio (Pete), and Elsie Coffey (Aaron Bruggemann).  Marylin Bennett (special friend). Grandchildren, Brittany Thurston, Trevor Fridley, Chelsea Yates, Zachery Boggess, Abbi Boggess, Jessa DiGregorio, Luca DiGregorio, Dewey Bruggemann, and Cooper Rowan.  Great grandchildren, Emma Thurston, Cullen Thurston, Jayce Boggess, Easton Boggess, Jaxson Madison, Wrensley Madison, Ellie Yates, and Ada Jo Yates.  Brothers and sisters, Shirly Siler, Joyce Hilton (Alton), Alton Coffey (Pat), Brenda Coffey, Gail Coffey, Dennis Coffey (Becky), and Debra Thomas.  He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, as well as great nieces and nephews, along with many, many friends. He was raised in a small country home surrounded by the mountains where he enjoyed helping his dad work the farm.  Carter grew up in a very loving home where he was very close to his parents and siblings but had an extra special bond with Floyd and Joyce.  Carter was a 1968 graduate of James River High School and immediately began working full time with his father and brother at A. R. Coffey & Sons, Inc.  He was drafted into the United States Army in January, 1970.  Upon honorable discharge, he returned to A. R. Coffey & Sons, Inc. at which time he became a partner in the company.  Although he was part owner in the company, he never expected his men to do anything on a job site that he wouldn’t do himself.  Later in life he decided to branch out and start his own company.  He spent his entire life working long, hard hours to provide for his family.  His entire life revolved around his children, siblings, and most importantly, his grandchildren.  There was never a brighter smile on his face than when a child walks into the room.  This man never met a stranger and would give you his last dollar or the shirt off his back if he thought you needed it more than he did.  He was one of a kind! Carter will forever be remembered for his hard work, kindness, generosity, love, and endless support to his family and friends. Visitation will be held at Buchanan Chapel of Botetourt Funeral Home (14920 Lee Highway, Buchanan, VA) on Thursday, September 5, 2024 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM.  Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, September 6, 2024 at Buchanan Chapel of Botetourt Funeral Home with Pastor Dreama Osbourne officiating.  Interment will follow at Springwood Baptist Church, 88 Copps Hill Road, Buchanan, VA.
