Cassie Freeman Martin

Cassie Freeman Martin, 95, of Martinsville, Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, September 8, 2026. She was born on April 2, 1931, in Franklin County, to the late Joseph Benjamin Freeman and Betty Lou Grady Freeman. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Larry Martin, Jr., and nine brothers and sisters.

Cassie was a faithful member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, where she had been a part of the congregation since 1965. She worked for many years as a bank teller and was known for her compassionate heart and generous spirit. She often gave to others and supported many charities throughout the years. Cassie found joy in the simple things she loved, especially cooking, and her homemade apple pie that won two local contests. She enjoyed gardening and taking pride in growing her own tomatoes. Cassie loved her grandchildren, making memories and enjoying their time together. Above all else, Cassie was a dedicated wife.

Cassie is survived by her children, Nancy Barnes (Darrell) and Samuel Keith Martin; grandchildren, Whitney Barrier (John) and Jason Barnes (Elaine); great-grandchildren, Liam Barrier, Maggie Barrier, and Jacob Barnes; and multiple nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at 12:00 PM, Norris Funeral Services – Martinsville. The family will accept guests one hour prior to the service. A burial will be held on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at 11:00 AM, at Roselawn Burial Park, in Martinsville.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks donation be made to Tabernacle Baptist Church, of Bassett, Virginia, in Cassie’s honor.
