Charles Anthony Simpson
Charles Anthony Simpson, Sr., 85, of Axton, VA went to be with the Lord on Monday, June 12, 2023 surrounded by his family. He was born October 20, 1937 in Washington DC to the late Wilfred Arthur Simpson and Dorothy Gilford Simpson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Patricia Lynn “Pattie” Simpson; sisters, Audrey, Jenny, Dottie, Betty, and Jean Frances; and brother, Arthur.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Barbara Jean Simpson; daughter, Annamarie Wright; sons, Charles A. “Buddy” Simpson, Jr. (Deborah), Robert Michael “Mike” Simpson (Lisa). And William Aubrey “Chip” Simpson (Paula); grandchildren, Michael, Jade, Kara, Amanda, Christopher, and Thomas; and great-grandchildren, Envious, Scarlett, Maxxamillion, and Maison.
The legacy of a man of merit…Both compassionate and tough, poor and rich, proud and humble. His wisdom comes from experience, poor choices, and a willingness to learn from them. Bobbie’s prayers were answered when Chuck became the husband and father, grandfather, church elder, teacher, prayer warrior, and friend she had always known he could be. He loves his wife with a grateful and undying love. The way they look at each other after 65 years of marriage is something to be envied.
He received a heritage and reward from the LORD in his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He learned to love them unconditionally (Psalm 127:3) and blessed each of them as he said goodbye (Hebrews 11:21).
A father to the fatherless, a minister to the broken and sinsick, a prayer warrior for those in need, he reached out even when it was uncomfortable. Leaving us with the greater love, his legacy is reaching still (John 15:13).
The toughest soldier in life and in death, he did not complain but departed this world with the sound of marching in the tops of the trees and obtained the victory (2 Samuel 5:24). He runs; he walks; he marches; he flies. And no doubt, he’s seeking entrance to Heaven’s kitchen.
His legacy lives on in each of us, and it beckons, Jesus is Lord. Come to Him, all you who are broken and weary. It is never too late.
Memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 17, 2023 at Christ Church with Pastor Tim Bredamus officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service from 2 to 3 p.m.
