Charles Benninger
Charles (Chuck) Benninger of Lewis Run, PA passed away on September 5, 2024, at Sovah Health, Danville, VA, due to complications from COVID. He was 88 years old at the time of his passing.
He was born in Irishtown, PA to Clara and Cash Benninger on October 5, 1935. He was the youngest of ten children. Chuck had a lively, adventure-filled childhood which he enjoyed sharing with friends and family. He is survived by his brother Darrell of Henderson, NV.
Following graduation from high school, Chuck enlisted in the US Army and served in Fort Knox, KY. He worked for many years at the Speers Corporation and Quaker State Refinery.
On September 8, 1957, Chuck married Nancy Anderson. They were married for over 54 years. You never saw one without the other. Nancy preceded him in passing on June 13, 2010. Our dad was very proud of the home they built together on Big Shanty Hill.
Chuck left Big Shanty five years ago and moved to Danville, VA to be with his daughter, Vicki. She lovingly looked after him until the time of his passing.
Chuck is survived by his two daughters, Vicki Rembold of Danville, VA and Brenda Smith and her husband Bruce of Knox, PA. He also had two grandsons, Logan Smith (Stevana) and Bryce Smith, and two great-grandsons, Oliver and Finley Smith.
A hard worker all his life, Chuck loved cutting and stacking wood for the wood stove, and he LOVED coffee and conversation. Lots of both. During any trip to town, he could be found talking to anyone he just met. He was a very friendly man, and we will miss him greatly. Please have a cup of coffee in remembrance of our father and strike up a conversation with a friend.
A graveside memorial service for Chuck will be held at a later date, and he will be buried with his dear wife.
