Charles Franklin "Bud" Jones of Concord, Virginia
January 14, 1934 - July 23, 2023
Charles Franklin “Bud” Jones, 89, of Spring Mill Road, Concord, went to be with his Heavenly Father with his family present on July 23, 2023, at Lynchburg General Hospital. Born in Campbell County, Va., on January 14, 1934, he was a son of the late Frances Scruggs and Charles Edward Jones.
Bud is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Nancy Giles Jones; three children, Charles F. “Chuck” Jones, Jr. and wife, Terri of Richmond, James Edward “Ed” Jones and wife, Mechelle of Concord, and Nancy Ellen Jones Johnson and husband, Keith of Evington; four grandchildren, Gavin Jones and wife, Brooke, Lindsey Jones, Hope Trent and husband, Blake, and Charlie Jones and wife, Maddy; three great-grandchildren, Ashlyn Jones, Grant Jones, and Turner Trent; and a sister, Nancy J. Cress of Lynchburg and her family.
He was preceded in death by an infant sister, Jean Jones and a brother-in-law, George B. Cress.
He was a lifetime member of New Concord Presbyterian Church serving as a deacon, treasurer, elder, and choir member. He proudly served his country as a member of the US Army. In addition to a career in banking, Bud lived on and farmed his family land with his son, Ed. Upon retirement, he enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s baseball and softball games and playing golf. He will be remembered for his singing and musical talents and his love for tractors, trucks, and cars, owning 57 automobiles in his lifetime. He enjoyed bargaining for a good deal.
Family was most important to Bud. He especially enjoyed his great-grandchildren, and he even had some precious moments with his most recent great-grandson.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, July 27, 2023, at New Concord Presbyterian Church officiated by Rev. Dick Boswell.
The family will receive friends at Robinson Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, from 6 until 8 p.m. and other times at his residence.
