Charles Lee Atkinson

Charles (Junior) Lee Atkinson, 83, of Salem, Va., passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2025.

Junior loved old cars, especially the 1940 Ford Coupe he owned himself. He also loved NASCAR racing and the Dallas Cowboys. He enjoyed fishing, boat rides, collecting coins and pocketknives, going to the beach, and looking forward to the next new adventure. His Pomeranian dogs, Olive and Dallas, were precious to him, but spending time with his family was most important.

He was predeceased by his parents, Charlie and Mary Atkinson; and sister, Glenna Fitzgerald.

His surviving family includes his children, Deborah Haynes, Lisa Whitescarver and husband, Todd, and Amanda Atkinson; siblings, Josephine Spicer, Elwood Atkinson, Ronnie Atkinson, and Anita Cooper; grandchildren, Tarah Milliron and husband, John, Natalie Wolters and husband, Tom, Alyce Carlin and husband, Ben, Derek Whitescarver and wife, Anna Kate, Samantha Austin and husband, Mike, and Abby Phillips and husband, Tyler; great-grandchildren, Andrew, Giuliana, and Caroline Milliron, Emery and Ella Wolters, Addison Carlin, and Cicely and Boone Whitescarver; and special friend, Scott McCoy.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, February 17, 2025, at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home. There will be no service.
