Charles Morris Sill

- May 3, 2026

Charles M. Sill II, known to family and friends as Charlie, passed away on May 3, 2026, in Forest, Virginia. He was 84 years old.

Born in Elmira, New York, Charlie grew up in Vermont and lived and worked in New York State before retiring to Virginia. He served in the United States Navy from 1959 to 1962 as a machinist. Charlie married Elizabeth Fischer in 1961. Throughout his life, he worked in construction, as a mechanic, and as a machinist. He was sought out for his inventive solutions to perplexing problems.

He had a passion for reading, a love of travel, and a lifelong enthusiasm for motorcycles of any kind. He was a talented vocalist and a member of several church choirs and barbershop quartets. Charlie’s own shop, filled with machines, tools, and materials, gave him endless enjoyment.

Charlie was a man of steady character and no pretenses. He approached problems with ingenuity and calm resolve. He gently prodded people to think differently. He gave help without hesitation. Charlie’s faith in God was a deep source of strength which he drew upon to encourage all who knew him. His family regarded him as their foundation - their rock - a role he cherished with quiet consistency.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Sill (née Fischer); sister, Ruth Sill; sons, Craig, Ron, and Gary; 9 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at Forest Baptist Church in Forest, VA at 3 PM on Saturday, May 9, 2026.

Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
