Cheryl MurphyMrs. Murphy, of Martinsville, VA, was received in heaven, June 21st, 2024.Born February 19, 1963, in Charlotte, NC, she was a daughter of Kenneth Howard and Laverne Pryor Rhodes.After graduating from high school, Cheryl worked in the insurance industry in Charlotte, NC and held positions with various companies through the years. She loved helping others. As her children matured, she also worked for the Floyd, VA school system. Toward the end of her working career, she continued a life of service as a COVID caseworker for the State of VA.Cheryl was a loving Mother and Grandmother, and a positive driving force for all who loved her and sought her advice as a friend or family member. She never lacked the courage or strength of heart to follow her own path. With a true love for nature and a profound connection to all living things, she found her truest joy amidst the serenity of nature along riversides, the ocean, and forests. Her life was a testament to the harmonious bond between humanity and the natural world, leaving an enduring legacy cherished by all who shared in her appreciation of Earth's wonders. Her love for Christmas shone brightly through the traditions she cherished and passed on to her children. It was her favorite time of year. Her laughter and her kind guiding light will be greatly missed by all who knew her.Celebration of Life services will be finalized at a later date.Mrs. Murphy is survived by her husband, Mark Murphy of Martinsville, VA along with their beautiful dogs Maggie and Myke. Her devoted children, daughters Amber Shortt and her husband Jacob of Blacksburg, VA, Jacqueline Thompson of Floyd, VA and sons John Kiker of Stanfield, NC and Matt Kiker and his wife Tressa of Monroe, NC. Her surviving siblings, Donna Rhodes of Columbia SC, Ken Rhodes of Lake Wylie, SC and Cindy Moore of Clover SC. Her parents, Mother, Laverne and Roderick Beard of Clover, SC: Father, Kenneth and Wanda Rhodes of Concord, NC. Cheryl had four beautiful grandchildren whom she loved dearly, Jules Kiker, Luke Kiker, Drake Kiker all of Monroe, NC and Jackson Shortt of Blacksburg, VA; three nieces Brooke Rhodes, Kenlee Rhodes, Heather Moore and a nephew Jason Moore, all in the Lake Wylie, SC area.The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care in Dobson, NC for their loving care and support of Mrs. Murphy and her family for the past few weeks.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made for medical bills to Mark Murphy at 719 Grattan Road, Martinsville, Virginia, 24112.
