Chester Glairwood Blankenship

September 12, 1936 - May 1, 2024

Chester Glairwood Blankenship, 87, of Roanoke County, Virginia, passed away on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at home.

He was an employee with Rowe Furniture for over 30 years before later working at Glenvar High School as a custodian. The loves of his life were horseback riding, NASCAR, camping, hunting, car shows and most of all spending time with family. He would give the shirt off his back as well as his very last dollar to anyone in need. He will be remembered most, however, by the way he loved his late wife of 65 years, Doris.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Crockett and Minnie Blankenship; wife, Doris Blankenship; brothers, Melvin, Elbert, and Jr. Blankenship; sisters, Mabel King and Ann-Texana Herndon; and grandchildren, Jeffrey Green and Michael C. Blankenship, Jr.

His surviving family includes his children, Michael C. Blankenship, Sr. and Ellen Richmond, and Linda Green; brothers, Mark and Theodore Blankenship; sister, Mary Melton; grandson, Michael D. Blankenship; great-grandchildren, Jacob, Sara, Melissa, Bradley, Emily, Lane, and Jase; special friend and horse rider, Danny Green; and canine companion, Chester, affectionately known as “My Buddy”.

The family extends appreciation to Good Samaritan Hospice for its phenomenal care.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem, Virginia, with Pastor John S. Collins officiating.
