Christine Newberry Havens

CHRISTINE NEWBERRY HAVENS, 78, of Bland, VA, passed away Thursday, February 26, 2026 at her home. She was born December 14, 1947, in Bland County, the daughter of the late A. T. & Beulah Newberry.

Christine attended Bland Presbyterian Lutheran Church.  She was an avid reader of the Bible and the Upper Room, both of which she read daily.

She retired from the Bland Correctional Center.

She enjoyed gardening, crocheting potholders, cooking and working in word search books.

Christine was preceded in death by her parents, Allen Taylor, Jr. & Beulah Vivian Tibbs Newberry, the love of her life, her husband, Tony Cicero Havens, her brother Robert Eugene Newberry, two brothers-in-law, Duane C. Davis and Richard C. (“Chaw”) Havens and a special nephew, Bradley Scott Davis.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters & son-in-law, Rachel Havens and Cicely & Andy Dunford; her beloved grand-dog, Sadie Mae Dunford; her sisters & brother-in-law, Betty Davis and Joyce & Louie Ayers; special sisters-in-law & brother-in-law, Jane & Ronnie Hall and Kathy Havens; and many special nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.

A memorial service is planned for Monday, March 2, 2026 at 7:00 P.M. at A. Vest & Sons Funeral Home Chapel, White Gate, with Pastor Howard Finkle officiating.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 P.M. until service time, 7:00 P.M.

Per her wishes, she will be cremated. She will be laid to rest privately at Morning Star Cemetery on a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made in Christine’s honor to the Wythe Hospice of Southwest Virginia, 705 E. Main St., Wytheville, VA 24382.
