Claiborne Daniel Garrett

Claiborne Daniel Garrett, age 81, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, at his home, Monday, May 13, 2024. He was born in Pittsylvania County, VA on July 14, 1942, the son of the late John Sam Garrett and Helen Adkins Garrett.

Claiborne served in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1962. He settled in the Whitmell Community in 1975 spending his life farming.

Claiborne is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mrs. Phyllis Merricks Garrett, daughters Serena Wiles (Dabney) and Karen Terry (Jeff); two stepchildren, David Garrett (Kim) and Deborah Riddle; grandchildren; Jessica Terry, Cody Rigsby (Elizabeth), Colt Rigsby (Jessica), Matthew Shore (Emily), Hunter Garrett, and Feliza Goode (Ernie); great-grandchildren; Camden Rigsby, Kensley Rigsby, Jackson Rigsby, Lexi Shore, Grant Rigsby, Blake Rigsby, and Blair Udell and a very special friends of the family, Julio Albornoz (Virginia) and family.

In addition to his parents, Claiborne was predeceased by a son; Clinton Garrett; and a sister; Rebecca Andrews.

A graveside funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 16, 2024, at 2:00 pm at County Line Christian Church Cemetery, 12711 Chatham Road, Axton, VA 24054 with Pastor Lee Rigsby officiating. A visitation will be held prior to the service on the same day from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. at Norris Chatham Chapel, 147 South Main Street, Chatham, VA.
