Clara Agnes Wheeler

September 3, 1939 - August 25, 2026

Clara Agnes “Agnes” Wheeler, 86, of Moneta, Virginia, passed away peacefully at her home on August 25, 2026. She was born on September 3, 1939, in Welch, West Virginia, to the late James and Alice Felts.

Agnes was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose family meant the world to her. She had a caring heart and a gentle way of making others feel loved. Agnes always put the needs of others before her own, and the kindness and love she gave so freely will be remembered by everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Before retiring, Agnes worked as a nursing assistant at Carriage Hill Nursing Home. Her compassionate nature was reflected not only in her work, but in the way she cared for her family, friends, and those around her.

She is survived by her children, Michael Steele and his wife, Katrina Steele; Lisa Workman and her husband, Dwaine Workman; and her sons, Curby Steele and Billy Steele. She also leaves behind six grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, all her beloved nieces and nephews, her brothers Lonnie Felts, Jimmy Felts, and Kenneth Felts, and her sister, Karen Mullins.

Agnes was preceded in death by her parents, James and Alice Felts; her late husband Delmar Steele; her son, Delmar Steele Jr; her granddaughter, Tasha Steele; her brothers, Thomas Felts and Lyold Felts; her daughter-in-law, Barb Steele; and her significant other, Kermit Poff.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Carilion Hospice for its compassionate care and support. A special thank-you is also given to Agnes’s dear friend and caregiver, Shannon Harris, for her kindness, dedication, and loving care.

Agnes’s memory will live on in the hearts of her family and all who loved her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her loving spirit, selfless heart, and unwavering devotion to those she held dear.

A Celebration of Agne’s life will be held Friday, August 28, 2026, at 3pm at Lotz Funeral Home Roanoke 1001 Franklin Road SW Roanoke, VA 24016, with Pastor Ronald Felts officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service
