Clarence Michael Butcher
Mr. Clarence Michael Butcher, age 71 of Mount Airy, passed away Monday September 2, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born April 8, 1953, in Surry County to the late Clarence and Muriel Inscore Butcher. Mr. Butcher retired from the US Army and was a member of New Beginnings Community Church. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Pracilla Sue Cooper Butcher; children, Robert David Butcher, Sr., Steven Addison Butcher and Lorraine, DeAnna Nichole Butcher Walker and Jesse, and Muriel Shawn Butcher Brooks and Jay; step children, Patricia Sue Travis and fiancé Gary, Edward Lee Travis and Terri, James Robert Nunn, and Barry Shane Nunn; 18 grandchildren, Robert David Butcher, Jr., Keith Alexander Butcher and Jayme, Abigail Grace Butcher, Emily Rose Butcher, Garrett Michael Butcher, Vivien Grace Butcher, Caleb Jordan Tye, Christian Isaiah Walker, Devan Isaac Walker, Eloise Jaye Brooks, Montana Amber-Dawn Rose and Joshua Forbes, Dakota Lee Wurzbach and Nick, Cameron Lee George Travis and Hayleigh, Nathan Edward Travis, Jonathan Nunn, and Dalton Nunn; 8 great grandchildren, Saydie Dawn Dotson, Layne Alan Dotson, Culhan Liam Swain, Kairi Maeve Jagger, Steven Forbes, Jayden Alan Wayne Forbes, Rhiannon Lee Velaska Forbes, and Sienna Lee Wurzbach; siblings, Arthur Lewis Heller, Rev. Doug Butcher, Francis Hatcher, and Patricia Butcher; sisters-in-law, Linda Jean Cooper, Sheila Ann Parker, Elisa and Michael Pope, and Agatha and Brian Brooks; and by several other family and friends. In addition to his parents, Mr. Butcher was preceded in death by a sister, Judy Jones; brother, Thomas “Bill” Butcher; daughter-in-law, Melissa Travis; and brothers-in-law, Leamon Junior Cooper and George Harvey Cooper. Funeral services will be held on Monday September 9, 2024, at 2:00pm in the Moody Funeral Home Chapel. The services will be conducted by Pastor Wes Mosteller, Pastor Jesse Walker, and Pastor Kevin Carlan. Burial will follow in the Willis Gap Baptist Church Cemetery with full military rites provided by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard Pilot Mountain Post 9436 and Mount Airy Post 2019. The family will receive friends on Monday at Moody’s from 12:30 – 2:00pm. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
