Cynthia "Bobbie" Conner

Cynthia "Bobbie" Conner passed away from this life into eternal glory on Wednesday April 1, 2026 at the Shelia S. Strauss hospice house in Roanoke VA. She was 85 years old. She was born Cynthia Arlene Hixon on April 23 1940, to the late William Bryant Hixon and Clyde Gaye Linkous Hixon of Blacksburg Va. She was the youngest of 8 children and preceded in death by her 7 siblings and their spouses. Mary (Marvell) Linkous, William "Bill" (Melva) Hixon, Sarah "Mabel" Donathan, Velma "Velvie" (Alfred) Collins, Pauline "Sis" (Gilbert) McGuyer, Paul "Tug" (Reda) Hixon and Carl Hixon. Also preceding her death was her husband James "Marvin" Conner and many nieces and nephews. She is survived by her sons Jeff Sowers and Jason (Laura) Conner and her grandson Bradlee Conner. Along with many nieces and nephews. Many people know her from Wades Supermarket where she worked in the meat and deli department for 24 years. She also worked for Southern Printing and Cheds Dept Store. Her working career also included the Overall factory, Holiday Inn, The chair factory, Virginia Tech, and after Wades closure she worked as a caregiver for 2 ladies she loved dearly. Finally at the age of 82 she retired. Her last years were plagued by Parkinson's and Dementia. She fought a hard fight but they finally won the final battle. The family would like to recognize the excellent care given by the staff at the Shelia Strauss Hospice House during the last week of her life. While they all deserve recognition the nurses on duty the most the during her stay are Danielle, Dakota and Lisa. A special thanks to everyone who had a part in her care. Arrangements are being handled by McCoy Funeral Home, with visitation on Tuesday April 7, 2026 from 5-7pm. Funeral services conducted on Wednesday April 8, 2026 at 1pm. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg. The family recommends in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Shelia Strauss Good Samaritan Hospice House 4751 Cove Rd NW Roanoke VA 24017.
