Daniel W. "Danny" Richards Obituary Daniel “Danny” W. Richards, 80, of Salem, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, surrounded by his family.Danny was born on September 4, 1944, in Roanoke, Va., son of the late Daniel W. and Helen Cox Richards. He honorably served his country in the United States Army Reserves and after 50 years of safe and dedicated service, he retired from truck driving to enjoy the rest of his days in his passion of farming. He will certainly be remembered for his tremendous work ethic, as well as his southern charm, honest, polite, and kind character, and his ability to always see the positive in people, with never a bad word to say about anyone. He leaves a legacy and example for us all to follow. Above all, Danny will be remembered for his love of family.In addition to his parents, Danny was preceded in death by his sister, Kathy Bates.Family remaining to cherish his memory includes his loving wife, Martha Ferguson Richards; daughter, Dana Nester and husband, Ralph; granddaughter, Sarah Mowles and husband, Jeremy; great-grandson, Jack Mowles; niece, Rebekah Stout; lifelong friend, David “Big R” Rettinger; and his loyal k-9 companion, “Newt.”The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at Greenridge Baptist Church; 5521 Green Ridge Rd., Roanoke, Va., from the hours of 10 until 11 a.m. A memorial service will begin directly after, starting at 11 a.m. Pastors Greg Mosier and Mike Johnson will officiate.In lieu of flowers, please consider donating, in Danny’s memory, to Samaritans Purse by following the provided link:Click here.Online condolences may be expressed to the Richards family by visiting www.johnmoakey.com.
