Daniel DeWitt, 43, died peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Sunday, October 16, 2022. Daniel was a carpentry contractor and built many homes in the Smith Mountain Lake, Roanoke, and New River Valley areas. Daniel enjoyed hunting and fishing with his dad, sons, brothers, and numerous friends.
Always independent, Daniel lived life to the fullest and on his own terms. He had a big heart and loved to make people laugh with his humor. He was a father-figure and grandfather-figure to many and will be missed by both family and friends.
Surviving are sons Zadean, Gavin, Elijah, and Cameron; daughter Sierra; grandchildren Julian and Gabby; father Danny DeWitt (Karen Saunders); mother Theresa DeWitt (Brad Enslow); brothers Steve DeWitt (Savannah Beckner) and Ben DeWitt (Ann Winifred); grandmothers Margaret DeWitt and Gloria Hammer; ex-wife Tara Himmel and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family would like to thank the amazing nurses and staff in the ICU unit of Roanoke Memorial Hospital for their caring support during this challenging time.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rescue Mission of Roanoke’s Recovery Program for Addiction, in Daniel’s memory.
A celebration of Daniel’s life will be held at his grandmother’s home on Sunday, October 30, 2022, 1:00 – 3:00 pm., 309 Key Lakewood Dr., Moneta, VA. Casual dress recommended. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount/Smith Mountain Lake.
