Daniel Ray Petty

Daniel Ray Petty, 72, of Covington, passed away Sunday, July 7, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Thomas Petty and Alma Mae Thompson Petty; sister, Barbara Sue Petty Staton; brothers, James Edward Petty and Sammy Joe Petty. Growing up in Buchanan, he graduated from James River High School, worked for CSX Railroad for 13 years, and retired from Botetourt County Maintenance Department with over 20 years service. He loved farming, hunting, and trout fishing , horse riding with the Boredinere Horse Riding Club, and many trail rides with the wagon and team horses. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Danielle and Phillip Meador; sons Jason and Matt Petty, all of Buchanan; grandchildren, Krista and Dustin Vaughn, Dylan and Jacob Underwood, Jackson, Autumn, and Sophie Meador, Justin Petty, and Hannah Wolfe Tucker; great-grandchildren, Scarlett and Silas Vaughn; sister, Lois Jeanette Petty Dunman; and fiancee’, JoAnn Edwards. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 pm Thursday, July 11, 2024 at Botetourt Funeral Home, Buchanan, a memorial service will follow at 6:30 pm in our chapel with Pastor Brian Sink officiating.
