David Kelso
DAVID LEON KELSO, of Arlington, Texas entered eternal rest peacefully at his home on August 5, 2026. He was born September 13, 1958, in Lynchburg, Virginia to Reverend Harrison J. Kelso and the late Helen Flowers Kelso.
David grew up in Appomattox, Virginia, and graduated from Appomattox County High School in 1976. Following his graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army, where he served as a Finance Specialist, gaining valuable hands-on experience in financial operations and administration. David devoted more than three decades to public service, culminating in a distinguished career with the Internal Revenue Service in Texas before his retirement.
Faith was truly an important part of his life. David was baptized at Mt. Shiloh Baptist Church in Spout Spring, Virginia, where he began a lifelong journey of faith that remained a source of strength and guidance throughout his years. Later in life, he joined St. John Church Unleashed in Grand Prairie, TX where he served in the Faith Walkers Prison Ministry.
David had a deep love and appreciation for music, with a particular passion for jazz. He was also an avid sports fan and had a love for travel and cherished the opportunity to explore new places. He will be remembered for his kind heart, generous spirit, and the love he shared with everyone around him. He genuinely loved people and had a remarkable ability to light up any room he entered. Often described as the life of the party, he brought joy, laughter, and warmth wherever he went. David touched countless lives and leaves behind a legacy of love and friendship.
In addition to his father, left to cherish his memories are two daughters, Dionne Mitchell (Marc) and Nicole Vaughan (Dwight); three grandchildren, Bryson, Ella, and Savion; three brothers, Harrison “Dickie” Kelso, Jr. (Melba), Andrew Kelso (Deanna) and Mark Kelso (Brenda); two sisters, Sandra White (Doug) and Debra Tucker (Alvin); a devoted friend, Marvin Dillard; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Helen Flowers Kelso.
