David Wallace Reid

February 4, 1938 - July 7, 2025

David Wallace Reid, affectionately known as “Wally,” entered eternal peace on Monday, July 7, 2025 at Sovah Health Danville with his devoted niece holding his hand. He was 87 years old having been born on February 4, 1938 in Danville, VA to Otha Garland Reid, Sr. (deceased) and Stona Stallings Reid (deceased).

Wallace graduated from George Washington High School and married his high school sweetheart

Deanna Clifton Reid (deceased) on June 8, 1956. He was blessed with 2 children; a son, Wallace Keith Reid (deceased) and a daughter Pamela Reid Roberts (deceased). He worked as a Supervisor at Dan River Mills in Danville for 22 years before accepting a Head Supervisor position at Spring Mill Textiles in Troy, NC; retiring 28 years later. He said retirement was too quiet for him and decided to go back to work at the local ABC store in Troy so he could meet new people every day; he worked into his late 70’s. Troy was his & Deanna’s home for over 40 years; Wallace and Deanna returned to Danville to be close to their families in 2020.

His family was his life and the foundation he and Deanna created withstood any struggle or heartbreak that came their way. He endured many physical hardships during the latter part of his life and never complained, he was always grateful for every day he awoke to fight another day with family and friends. He was always devoted to his family and they were all important to him. He was a kind, loving man, a great husband, father, son, brother, uncle and trusted friend. He always had special caramel creams in his pocket for his children, nieces, nephews and neighborhood children, all of which tried to tackle him to get to the candy in his pocket. He loved fast cars and motorcycles in his younger years and may have even “damaged” a few along the way! Wallace enjoyed traveling to the mountains, lake or beach with his family and friends. He loved to play golf with his brothers-in-law, enjoyed watching baseball (Ted Williams was his all time favorite) and loved to fish with his son, nephews and brother “Sweet.” He learned to garden from his father and loved getting his hands dirty with the work of growing a bounty of fresh food for his family and friends; tomatoes, okra, cucumbers and grapes were always shared. The memories of his mother’s biscuits and jam always brought a smile to his face. All animals in need seemed to find their way to the safety of his yard and home. Dogs, cats, squirrels, birds…it did not matter, he cared for them all.

In addition to his parents, wife and children, Wallace was predeceased by his father-in-law, E. C. Clifton, mother-in-law, Ruby S. Clifton, his brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill and Elease Bolton, Jerry and Dawn Wyatt, Sarah C. Reid, and his niece Rebecca R. Stump.

Left to cherish his memory are his brother Otha G. Reid, Jr. and families of Martinsville, VA; sister Betty Jean Campbell (Donald) & family, the family of Bill & Elease Bolton, the family of Jerry & Dawn Wyatt, all of Danville, VA; along with his very large and loving extended family members that stretch over 5 generations. Wallace and Deanna shared a special bond with their niece Mitzi Cassidy, husband Shawn and the “grandchildren of their hearts,” Tyler & Hunter Cassidy, who loved them unconditionally and gladly cared for them in their later years.

A Celebration of Wallace’s Life & Family Visitation will be held on Friday, July 11, 2025 from 10:00am – 11:30am at Norris Funeral Services, Inc. and Crematory, Mt. Hermon Chapel, 3995 Franklin Tpke., Danville, VA. Wallace requested everyone attend in “comfortable and casual” attire.
