Donald "Byrd" Raymond Dalton

Donald Raymond “Byrd” Dalton, 60, of Bassett, Virginia passed away on Saturday, July 27, 2024 from a long terminal illness, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born on June 15, 1964, in Roanoke, Virginia, to the late Ronnie Lee Hale and Donna Darelene Hale. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Cheryl Dalton.

Byrd had a profound love for cars and a remarkable knack for diagnosing problems just by hearing a car's engine. Many of his most memorable conversations took place while he was working under the hood. He also enjoyed spending time outdoors, whether it was mowing the lawn or honing his aim at target shooting. Most importantly, he treasured the moments spent with his family and friends.

Byrd is survived by his loving wife of 16 years, Rhonda Dalton; four sons, Jonathan Lee Bell, Christopher McKinley Dalton, Nickolas Andrew Dalton (Bethany), and Robert Matthew Dalton; one daughter, Erica Dalton DeVivo (Micheal); two stepsons, Donnie Ray Robertson Jr. (Heather) and Jerry Allen Joyner; 11 grandchildren; two great grandchildren and expecting two other great grandchildren; three brothers, Roy Dalton, Eric Dalton, and John Dalton; a fur baby, Margo; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.

All services will be private. Services will be announced at a later date for family and close friends.
