Donald "Donnie" Ray Oliver
Donald Ray “Donnie” Oliver, Sr., 77, of Roanoke, Virginia, went to be with the Lord on Friday, June 13, 2025, with his loving sister holding his hand. Born on October 12, 1947, to the late Landon Boyce Oliver and Letha Mae Sullins Justice, he is also preceded in death by his brothers, Charles Boyce Oliver, Jessie Frank Oliver, Ronnie Wayne Oliver and Ricky Lee Oliver.
Donnie loved antique cars and enjoyed working on cars for friends and family. When the weather was nice, he enjoyed fishing. In the summer months, Donnie grew a large garden only to give away all he harvested. Each summer he’d give away hundreds of home-grown tomatoes! He loved playing pool and even competed in pool tournaments in his younger days. Sundays meant watching the Nascar race, his favorite drivers being Dale Earnhardt and Kyle Larson. Donnie was quite the jokester and was always telling somebody a joke. He genuinely loved to make people laugh. He will be greatly missed.
Those remaining to cherish his memory are his daughter, Malinda Ann Hall; son, Donald Ray Oliver, Jr.; grandsons, Timothy, Dustin and Nathan; great-grandson, Jaxon; sisters, Linda Ruth Williams and husband, Gary and Kathy Mae Mills and husband, Roger; brother, Norman Edward Oliver; special nephew, Michael Woolwine, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and his very special canine companions, Leila and Rio.
The family will welcome friends for a time of visitation on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, beginning at 1:00 p.m., in the chapel of John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, Salem. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., in the funeral home chapel with Dave Vanderpool officiating. Interment immediately following in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
