Donald Joseph Howell, 65, of Fieldale, Virginia, passed away at home surrounded by his loved ones on Saturday, May 11, 2024. He was born October 14, 1958, in Christiansburg, Virginia, to the late Haley Myrtle Davis Howell and John Cline HowellIn addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sisters, Francis Louise Moles (Alvin) and Dorothy Mae Howell; brothers, Johnny “Buddy” Howell (Ellen), Bobby Ray Howell (Peggy), Allen Wayne Howell (Glenda), Charles Edward Howell (Pansy), Billy Joe Howell, Thomas Junior Howell, and Jackie Lee Howell.Donald was a member of Valley Drive Baptist Church in Fieldale, Virginia. He loved his grandchildren and was a family man at heart. He was a hard-working man that loved to cut wood and work as a cattle farmer. He had a free spirit and loved to tell jokes to the family and friends. When Donald became ill with cancer, he began to hunt deer from his bedroom window. He was an avid Chevrolet lover, especially old cars, and trucks. His favorite quotes to say were “if there is a will, there is a way” as well as “just because you are tired, does not mean you are done”.He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Peggy Marie Howell; daughter, Donna Smith (David); sons, Billy Howell (Kristy) and Daniel Howell (Tracy); sister, Pirscella Ann Poff (Billy); grandchildren, Candace, Ashley, Ben, Kelcey, Daniel, Blake, Camden, Haley, and Annalynn; great-grandchildren, Chloe, Conner, Remy, and Tinsley; numerous nieces and nephews; great neighbors, Audon and Marie; and his two chihuahuas, Cheyanne and Bandit.The memorial service will be held Thursday, May 23, 2024, at 7:00 PM at Valley Drive Baptist Church. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.The family will be accepting visitors at the Howell household prior to the service.
