Donald Lee Twitty

Donald L. Twitty, 78, of Mt. Airy, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 24, 2024. He was born in Monroe, Michigan on December 28, 1945 to Amel and Jean Twitty. Don worked for many years at La-Z-Boy, a career that brought his family from Monroe, Michigan to Lincolnton, North Carolina. He finished his career at Hanes Brands in Mt. Airy, where he retired. Don was faithfully committed to God and his church, First Baptist Church of Mt. Airy. He was a proud member of the church’s Thursday night meal ministry, which feeds countless community members each week. Don was also an avid car enthusiast, his prized possession being a 2004 Mustang GT, which he enjoyed driving through the mountains of North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Nancy Twitty, who passed away in 2020. He is survived by his daughters Angela Slick, her husband Adam Slick, Julie Smith and her husband Patrick Smith; his grandchildren Rachel Griffin, Trey Griffin and Lydia Smith; his sister Caryn Vavrick, her husband Ted Vavrick, his nephew Jason Vavrick and his niece Anne Russeau. A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 29, 2024 at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church in Mt. Airy with service conducted by Rev. Jay Meadows. Donations to the church’s Feeding Friends ministry would be greatly appreciated.
