Donald Leroy Marcum

August 28, 1938 - March 25, 2024

Donald “Donnie” Leroy Marcum, aged 85, journeyed to meet his Savior March 25, 2024.  He entered this world August 28,1938 in Loudoun County, Virginia to Mary Katherine Blankenship Marcum and Roy C. Marcum.

Affectionally known as “Pop”, he was dedicated to his faith, family, and country above all else. He was devoted to his wife, of 41 years, whom he lovingly called Ruthie. He served as her primary caregiver prior to her admittance to memory care and continued to visit her daily thereafter.

A skilled woodworker, knowledgeable mechanic and avid outdoorsman and hunter, Pop could always be relied upon for insight, direction, and a helping hand. He loved hunting in the Rockies and fishing trips with his Indiana family. His passions included NASCAR, singing with his family, small animals, tacos, and an occasional sip of Maker’s Mark. He was heavily involved with both Fincastle Baptist and Hamilton Baptist Churches and his compassion for others led him to support the Wounded Warriors Project, St. Jude Hospital and Angels of Assisi.

Pop is survived by his wife, Ruth “Ruthie” Croson Marcum; daughter Lainie Marcum DuBose; stepdaughters Lori Flemming, Sue Hindman and Tracy Branson; grandchildren Jessica Dorsey, Lexi Marcum, and Josie DuBose; Audrey Blue Flemming, Tyler Johnson, Jacob and Lucas Branson; along with sister Pattie Palmer, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his cherished daughter Kathy Marcum Dorsey, sister Barb Wheeler and faithful black labs Rex and Rambo.

Into your hands, O Lord, we commend our precious “Pop”.
