Donald Ray Vernon
Donald Ray Vernon, 78, of Madison Heights, went home to be with his Lord, Saturday, October 26, 2024, at his residence. For 52 years, he was the loving and devoted husband of Cheryl Gillette Vernon.
Born in Roanoke VA, he was the son of the late Horace Edward Vernon and Virginia Lowman Vernon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Willie Edward Vernon, and sister-in-law Trish Vernon.
Don was the retired owner and operator of Economy Furniture in Madison Heights.
He was a faithful member of Life Ministries (Church of God of Prophecy) in Lynchburg. He served in several positions over the years but, perhaps, the most loved post was that of Head Usher. He loved people and took every opportunity to share the love of Jesus with everyone he met.
He loved his family and is survived by his devoted son, Chris Vernon and wife Robyn of Crestview FL; two very special granddaughters, Stella and Reese Vernon; two brothers, Nyle Vernon of Minneola FL, and Gary Vernon and his wife Alma of Madison Heights; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the dedicated staff of Centra Hospice for their compassionate and excellent care.
A memorial service to celebrate Don’s life will be held at 12:00 PM (noon), Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at Life Ministries (2213 Cobbs Street, Lynchburg VA 24501) with Pastor Jonathan Gillette officiating. The family will receive friends, at the church, for one hour prior to the service, beginning at 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers the family ask that you please consider a donation to Life Ministries (www.lifeministriesva.com) or the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org).
