Donald Richard Greenburg

January 18, 1946 - March 20, 2024

Donald Richard Greenburg, 78, of Salem, Virginia, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 20, 2024. Born on January 18, 1946, in Orange County, California to the late Robert C. and Alice Peace Greenburg, he retired to and raised his family in Franklin County, Va.

Always athletic and fiercely competitive, he lettered in three sports in high school: football, basketball, and baseball. He loved sports and horse racing and remained a loyal Dodgers fan, even in Va. Mr. Greenburg retired after 20 years of service in the United States Navy having achieved the rank of Sr. Chief and as a civilian, worked for more than 20 years in maintenance for Marriott/Wyndham.

Those remaining to cherish his memory are his sons, Gary A. Greenburg and his wife, Angela and Mark R. Greenburg and his wife, Toshia; grandchildren, Jessica Greenburg Beaudoin, and husband, Joe, Braxton Greenburg, and Keegan Thacker; great-grandchildren, Franklin Beaudoin and Jackson Beaudoin; sister, Joyce A. Robison; nieces, Lisa Barlow and Geri Barlow, as well as very dear and close friends, Glen and Wanda Dillon.

The family will welcome friends for a time of visitation on Saturday, March 23, 2024, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., in the chapel of John M. Oakey and Son Funeral Home, Salem, before processing to Sherwood Memorial Park, Salem, for a 2:00 interment with military honors.

The family would like to express their sincerest gratitude to all of the doctors and staff of Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, V.A. Medical Center, Salem Health and Rehabilitation, and the Blue Ridge Cancer Care Center for the compassionate care given to Donald during this time.
