Donna Pugh Sturgill

Donna P. Sturgill passed away on November 6, 2024 at Lynchburg General Hospital after a determined and courageous battle with multiple medical issues.Donna was born September 1, 1947 in Bedford Virginia. She attended Bedford County Schools and Bob Jones University, graduating in 1969. She went on to a career in teaching at LCA, Bedford County Schools, Portsmouth, Virginia Schools, and Prince George's County Schools. After a career of more than 40 years teaching, she retired in 2009 and she and her family relocated back to the Lynchburg area.Donna was a devoted and active member of Thomas Road Baptist Church where she was involved in a variety of programs and activities.Donna was preceded in passing by her husband of 52 years, Paul C. Sturgill, a son Brett Sturgill, her father Paul G. Pugh, Sr., mother Alta F. Pugh and a sister Helen Marie Pugh.She is survived by five brothers and sisters; Joan P. Shutt (Terry), Mark Pugh (Tracy), Kathy Plourde, Penny Dooley, and Paul G. Pugh, Jr. (Marlene); a host of beloved nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Donna is also survived by an extended "family" of friends from her church community by whom she will be deeply missed in their daily lives. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the medical staff at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital for the wonderful care Donna received during her weeks of hospitalization.A Celebration of Donna's Life will be held on Wednesday, November 13, 2024 at Thomas Road Baptist Church Pate Chapel, officiated by Pastor Jonathan Falwell. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service. Those in attendance are also invited to reception after the service.
