Doris Marie Webster Pettis

December 17, 1947 - March 23, 2024

Doris Marie Webster Pettis gained her wings on March 23, 2024, at the Woodlands Health and Rehab Facility in Clifton Forge, Virginia. She was born on December 17, 1947in Henrico, Virginia by her parents the Late James and Mattie Webster of Glasgow. She was educated in the Rockbridge County School Systems. She accepted the Lord Jesus Christ at an early age. She loved the church. She was a member of the Adult Choir, Usher Board and the Ladies Donations Society. She worked for TAP Community Services, also as a Teacher's Aide in the Buena Vista School System, but for the remainder of her working career she worked as a caregiver, a private duty nurse and Med Tech at the Manor of Natural Bridge until retirement. Doris had a caring heart, and she gave a helping hand to everyone. Whether it was food, money, clothes, or even a place to stay, she would let you know that she was in your corner no matter what your mishaps were and never judged you because she always told people “I can't judge you, but only God can and I can try and bless you along the way”. She was known by everyone as Aunt Doris, Mama Doris, or Nana Doris. She really loved all the children in the community. She would take them to get Happy Meals or Coloring books for doing well in school and getting them school supplies to make sure that they started the year on a good foot. Doris was always doing something in her downtime. She loved to read, listen to audio books, watch movies, and shows such as In the Heat of the Night, Matlock, Judge Judy, Hallmark Channel, and Family Feud while drinking diet Dr. Pepper and eating her Klondike bars.

She is proceeded in death by her parents, James and Mattie Webster, sister, Virginia (John) Dunn, mother-in-law, Nannie Pettis, sister-in-law, Purial Pettis Mesadieu, and son, James Joseph Pettis.

Those left to cherish her memory are husband of 46 years, Henry Pettis, daughter, Sabrina (George) Toliver of Buchanan, VA; son, Todd Pettis of Florida; grandchildren, Alexis (John IV) Jones of Colorado, George Toliver II of Buchanan, VA, and Micah Pettis of Florida, The Dunn Family, sisters-in-law, Mary Pettis (Godfrey) Scarlet, Judith Beverly, and Lucy Pettis; brothers-in-law, Paul Pettis and Lazarus “Big Shot” Pettis; and other friends and family. Also last, and not least cousin, Maxine Gray; Book Exchange buddy, Hazel Turner; and childhood friend, Lillie May Jean Anthony. Although she has departed from us, her caring and loving spirit will forever be in our hearts and memories forevermore.
