Doris Willard Smith

January 23, 1935 - June 6, 2024

Doris Willard Smith, age 89 of Wirtz passed away Thursday, June 6, 2024. She was born January 23, 1935 a daughter of the late Rufus and Virter Willard. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ed Richard Smith; siblings, Walter Willard (Virginia), Jacob Willard (Fennie), Pearl Bernard, Viola Stanley Davis, Arnie West (Alvin), Dora Holland (Tom), Elsie Powell (Ira) and brothers-in-law, Lynwood Robertson and Elton Wilson. Doris was born and raised in Franklin County, Virginia where she lived her entire life. She was a daughter, sister, wife, mother, granny and a great-granny; but most importantly she was a friend to all. She spent all of her days taking care of others. She made sure everyone had good country cooking and love. She found her peace in life through her flowers that surrounded her entire home. She leaves behind two sons, Milton (Beatrice) Smith and Maurice Smith; three daughters, Kathy (Samuel) Brown, Debbie Dillon, Tammy (Kenny) Law; ten grandchildren, Julie (Travis) Ferguson, Eddie (Jessica) Dillon, Deirdre Brown (Matt Helms), Veronica Rutrough, Bradley (Huxley) Smith, Marcus Smith, Kyle Brown (Summer Eubank), Brittany (Steven) MacEachern, Davanna Law (A.J. Beck), Lillie Smith; six great-grandchildren, Devin, Tucker and Isabella Dillon, Zayne Trail, Henry and Wade MacEachern; two sisters, Zelda Robertson and Eddie Wilson; along with many nieces and nephews. Special thanks to her youngest sister, Ett for all the love and care she gave to our mother and also Affinity Hospice and nurses Mindy, Barbara and Natasha. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to Burnt Chimney Volunteer Fire Department. Funeral services will be held at Flora Funeral Chapel 3:00 p.m. Sunday, June 9, 2024 with Minister Steve Pasley officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends starting at 1:00 p.m. Sunday and other times at Kathy and Samuel’s residence, 1670 Altice Mill Road, Rocky Mount, VA, 24151.
