Dorothy "Dot" Brown Copenhaver
Dorothy (Dot) Brown Copenhaver of Roanoke (formerly of Bristol, TN) died peacefully and surrounded by love on Wednesday, February 13, 2019. She was born July 18, 1920, to Lera Stultz and Swanson Brown in Vinton, VA and was predeceased by her husband, Frank P. Copenhaver.
She is survived by her loving and devoted nieces, Hope Copenhaver Hale and husband Tom, Frankie Copenhaver Bielawski and husband Bob; nephew, Fred Hodnett and wife, Lyn of Ashland, VA; nieces, Nancy Roberts and husband, Bill of Durham, NC, and Leigh Ann Copenhaver of Glade Spring, VA; a special and favorite cousin, Brenda Stultz Wampler of Roanoke; and severlal great nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is also survived by special and loving Roanoke friends, Margie Lemon, Sue Lawrence, and Val Drinkwine.
Dot was a graduate of William Byrd High School and Averett University. She was a long-time member of First Presbyterian Church in Bristol, TN and exemplified the true meaning of "a lady."
She loved the games of golf, bridge, as well as football, and treasured the many years of travels she shared with Frank.
Dot's family would like to thank the staff at Our Lady of the Valley for their care over the last four (plus) years, as well as the staff of Good Samaritan Hospice (especially Kristen) for their genuine love and care in recent days.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the Presbyterian Community Center 1228 Jamison Avenue Roanoke, VA 24013 or to Good Samaritan Hospice 2408 Electric Road Roanoke, VA 24018.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, February 16, 2019 at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road by Dr. Russ Merritt. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Vinton. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Simpson Funeral Home. 366-0707
