Dorothy Lawless

Dorothy Beatrice Rakes Lawless, 99, of Danville, Va. passed away Thursday, May 2, 2024 at Holiday Village, Danville, Va. She was born in Henry County, December 24, 1924 to Russell Rakes and Hattie Padgett Rakes.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Everett Divers Lawless; her brothers, Lester, Bennie and David Rakes; sisters, Virginia Ratliff and Mamie Rakes; daughter, Rebecca Lawless Duke and son, Kenneth Lawless.

She is survived by her son, Mike Lawless (Kathy); daughters, Peggy Owens and Karen Self (Mark); grandchildren, Angela Owens, Sean Owens, Jordan Self and Dustin Self; and brother, James Rakes.

Dorothy was a member of Mt. Bethel Methodist Church. She was a homemaker who loved her family. She also loved gardening, doing things outdoors and walking on the River Walk.

A visitation will be held from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Sunday, May 5, 2024 at McKee-Stone Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm in the chapel and will be officiated by Reverend Richard Motley. Interment will follow at Roselawn Burial Park.
