Dorothy Tyree

Dorothy “Dot” Ponell Tyree, 77, of Henry, VA, passed away August 29, 2023 at Sovah Health Hospital in Martinsville, Virginia. She was born on January 26, 1946, to the late Charlie and Mary Ella Ross. In addition to her parents, she was proceeded in death by her husband Aaron “June” Allen Tyree, a brother Edward Ross, sisters Mildred Ross, Liza Ruth Manns, and Lucy Thomas.

She worked for 20+ years at Bassett Furniture Industries as a floater. She was a faithful member of Kitson Memorial Baptist Church where she served in the choir and under the leadership of the late Reverend James Akridge. In her spare time she enjoyed spending time with her family and watching WWE Wrestling.

Dot leaves to cherish her memories her children, Tracy Ferguson and Quinto Tyree; one grandson Richard Ferguson; one great-grandchild Jayceon “Doodles” Ferguson, five sisters, Eller Garrett (Thomas), Emma Ross, Sarah Moore (Horace), Thelma King, and Elizabeth Williamson, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family and friends. She was loved by so many and she surely will be missed!

Dot’s memorial service will be held Tuesday, September 5, 2023, at Bassett Funeral Home, 3665 Fairystone Parkway Hwy, Bassett, Virginia with Elder John-Ell Manns officiating. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. Funeral service will begin promptly at noon. The internment will be held at Carver Memorial Garden, Martinsville, Virginia, immediately following the service.
