Douglas Leo Prillaman
Douglas L. Prillaman, 87 of Collinsville, passed away on Tuesday, May 16, 2023. He was born on November 4, 1935 in Collinsville to the late Harvie Dennis Prillaman and Annie Glenwood Thomason Prillaman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Clyde D. Prillaman and his brother-in-law, C. Berkley Whitlow, JrDoug grew up working in the family grocery business in Collinsville. He worked for twenty years as a loan officer at the First National Bank of Bassett. He then served Henry County in the Real Estate Assessment Office of the Commissioner of Revenue until his retirement in 2001. For many years concurrently, he owned and operated a used car sales business in Collinsville and was a motor route carrier for the Roanoke Times.Doug served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army Reserve.He enjoyed playing golf, watching motor sports, reading detective novels and history books, and supporting his children and grandchildren’s interests and activities. He loved his large and extensive Prillaman and Thomason families.Doug is survived by his wife of 66 years, Dorothy Ellis Prillaman, one son, William Dennis “Denny”Prillaman (Teresa), one daughter, Donna Prillaman (David), four grandchildren, Kevin Lee Prillaman (Rebecca), Jeffrey Kyle Prillaman (Hannah), William Kenneth Fleming and Margaret Glenwood Fleming, four great grandchildren, Ciara Leeann Prillaman, Riley John Prillaman, Roran Dennis Prillaman, and Elizabeth Kay Prillaman and one one step-great grandchild, Morrigan Rebecca Macho; two sisters, Betsy Whitlow and Rebecca Prillaman, and numerous nieces and nephews.The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 21, 2023 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Collins Funeral Home, 30 Riverside Hwy, Bassett, VA and again on Monday, May 22, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. before the funeral service at noon.
