Douglas Mcmurtrie
Douglas McMurtrie, 75, of Blacksburg, Virginia, passed away peacefully at home on May 21, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on July 7, 1950, in New York, Douglas lived a full and deeply meaningful life marked by curiosity, discipline, kindness, and adventure. He was a lifelong learner whose many passions included computer science, chess, SCUBA diving, martial arts, golf, yoga, and health and wellness. He approached life with an open mind and a genuine appreciation for learning, exploration, and the people around him. Above all else, Douglas deeply loved his family and friends. He will be remembered for his intelligence, quiet strength, thoughtful nature, and the many conversations, experiences, and memories he shared with those he loved. He is survived by his beloved wife, Desin (Jao) McMurtrie; his daughter, Michelle Nataya-McMurtrie Chamlis; his son-in-law, Jeff Chamlis; and his granddaughters, Shea Chamlis and Piper Chamlis. He was preceded in death by his father, John McMurtrie; his mother, Helen McMurtrie; his aunt, Elizabeth McCallum and his brother, John Henderson. The family will receive friends at McCoy Funeral Home on May 27, 2026, at 1:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Douglas will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
