Earnest "Roy" Bowles
Earnest Roy Bowles, 81, of Bassett, Virginia, passed away Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born September 25, 1943, in Henry County, Virginia, to the late Earnest Sell Bowles and Nellie Turner Bowles. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Margie Witt of Tampa, Florida; and one brother, Roger Bowles of Bassett, Virginia.
Roy was a carpenter, contractor, and farmer by trade, he was known for his strong work ethic and dedication. He owned a convenient store for many years and successfully operated excavating, septic, backhoes, and dump trucks to further elevate his career. His passion for restoring vintage vehicles and love for antique cars were well-known, though he never traveled far from home. A devoted grandfather, he took pride in hosting family gatherings and welcoming others with an open heart. He enjoyed watching races, taking peaceful naps, and caring for his beloved cows. Above all, he was an exceptional man, husband, father, brother, and grandfather with a truly big heart
He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Vickie Martin Bowles; four children, Karen Barley (David), Ronnie Bowles (Crystal), Misty White (Jeff), and Justin Bowles (Hannah); bonus son, Randy Turner (Michelle); seven grandchildren, Matthew Barley (Kayla), Carrie Paige Bowles (Dyllan), Kandyn Keffer, Cameron White, Emily Barley, Ethan White, and Weston Keffer; two great grandchildren, Peyton Thomas and Roy James “RJ” Barley; two sisters, Mamie Stone of Bassett, Virginia and Judy Thomas of Fairystone, Virginia; two brothers, Troy Bowles of Bassett, Virginia and Berkley Bowles (Brenda) of Bassett, Virginia; and numerous nieces, nephews, family members, and friends.
The visitation will be held Monday, October 28, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Bassett Funeral Service Chapel. The funeral will be held Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Bassett Funeral Service Chapel with Pastor Jeff Rhea officiating. The burial will follow at County Line Church of God of Prophecy Cemetery.
Roy will have eight Pall Bearers present at the service, Ronnie Bowles, Justin Bowles, Randy Turner, Maurie “Junebug” Miles, Jimmy “Railroad” Havens, Cameron White, Matthew Barley, and Brain Bowles. As well as Honorary Pall Bearers, Weston Keffer, and Ethan White.
The family will be accepting family and friends prior to the funeral at their home, 2195 County Line Road, Bassett, Virginia 24055.
