Edith Meador

November 1, 1922 - May 3, 2024

Edith Ann Meador, 101, of Roanoke, Virginia, went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 3, 2024. Born on November 1, 1922, to the late Harry and Hannah Harvey Meador, she is also preceded in death by her loving husband, whom she lost 21 years ago, George Carl Meador; son, Gary Steven Meador, as well as her grandsons, Donald Carl Burks and Ricky Dean Burks.

Edith was not only 101.5 years old, but she was also a breast cancer survivor of 35 years. She loved going to church and singing hymns. Edith enjoyed time with her family and teaching them her favorite hobbies of crocheting, cooking, and sewing. Edith had a passion for telling stories; growing up with 13 siblings, she had lots of stories to tell!
Edith leaves behind her daughters, Jeanne Meador and Mariea (John) Hardy; grandsons, Mark Hardy and Michael Hardy; granddaughter, Michelle Rock; great grandchildren, Angela (Daniel) Chapman, Cadie (Holly) Burks, Jenna (Matthew) Booth, Alana Gandy, Lexi and Lily Rock; great-great grandchildren, Hannah, Haylee, Jacob and Logan Chapman and Brady, Tessa, and Rowan Booth; as well as siblings, Cecil Meador, Oscar (Helen) Meador, Buddy Meador and Ralph Meador.

The family will welcome friends for a time of visitation on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., in the chapel of John M. Oakey and Son Funeral Home, Salem. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Jeff Gardner officiating. Interment immediately following in Fair View Cemetery, Roanoke.
