Edna "Angel" Martin Staton

June 11, 1943 - January 11, 2024

Angel (Edna Martin) Staton, 80 of Roanoke County, VA passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at Lewis Gale Hospital as a result of cardiac arrest. She was known to some as Eddie but to most as Angel. She was always Rob’s Angel. Angel was predeceased by her grandmother (who raised her and was considered Angel’s mother) Blake Martin, and by her father, Louis Johnson Martin, Jr. She is survived by her husband, Rob; son, Buddy Rhoades and his wife Robin, son, Kimball and his wife Lisa, son, Bradley and his mate, Matthew; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Angel also leaves behind a host of special friends from all over the country; friendships forged at Robbie and Angel’s home away from home – Sand Pebble Resort in Treasure Island, Florida.

Angel was born Friday, June 11, 1943, in Tarboro, N.C. but moved to Roanoke County as an infant to be raised by her grandparents. She graduated from Washington & Lee High School in Arlington, VA. She retired from Mohawk Employees Credit Union as its manager in 1987. Angel loved to cook and anybody who had eaten her food knew she was a good cook. She also loved to work in her yard and loved to make jewelry.

Angel was a member of Fellowship Community Church. She was explicit in her wishes not to have a memorial service.

An interment service will be held at Salem Presbyterian Church’s Columbarium on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at 2 p.m. A visitation will be held at Angel's home following the internment service.

A visitation with the family will also be held at John M. Oakey and Son Funeral Home in Salem, Virginia from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, January 18, 2024.
