Edward Ellis
Edward (Ed) “Jiddie” Ellis, 97, of Roanoke went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 27, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents, Barkett and Louise Najjum Ellis; brothers, R.A. Ellis, James Ellis, Fred Ellis, Melvin Ellis, and Richard David Ellis; sisters, Margaret Ellis Wiggins and Mary Ellis Sacre.
Ed was a graduate of St. Andrews High School and proudly served his country in World War II in the U.S. Navy. He was a life-long member of St. Elias Maronite Catholic Church and delighted in Sunday family gatherings. He was an avid reader and had a keen mind for business.
In addition to his wife, Banate “Jeanette” Ellis, he will be missed and remembered by his son, Pierre Ellis (Tammy); grandchildren, Charles Aesy, III, Alexis Ellis, Victoria Aesy, and Christina Ellis; brother, Robert G. “Bobby” Ellis (Susan); as well as numerous beloved nieces and nephews including a special niece, Diana Aesy (Charles).
The Funeral Mass will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 31, 2024 at St. Elias Maronite Catholic Church with father George Zina officiating. Interment will follow at St. Andrew’s Diocesan Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday at Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road Chapel, where a prayer service will be recited at 5:00 p.m.
The family would like to say a very special thank you to the primary medical team at Salem Virginia Veterans administration and the VA Hospital, the Carrington Place, and Good Samaritan for the wonderful care they took of Ed. Finally, many thanks to mom’s niece, Hiba who came from Lebanon and assisted them many months with her love and care.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorial donations be made to the building fund at St. Elias Maronite Catholic Church, 4730 Cove Road, Roanoke, VA 24017.
