Edward Simmons
Mr. Edward Leeroy Simmons, age 60, of Covington, died Friday, June 20, 2025, at LewisGale Hospital-Alleghany, Low Moor. He was the husband of Nancy Knighton Simmons to whom he has been married to for thirty-eight years.
Mr. Simmons was born on November 20, 1964 in Clifton Forge, the son of the late Jack Gilman Simmons and Dorothy Leighton Simmons. He was a lifetime resident of this community. Mr. Simmons attended Covington High School before completing his General Education Degree (GED) in 1985. In his early career, Eddie worked as a journeyman lineman for Virginia Power. Later he returned to Covington and became a journeyman iron worker for various construction companies. He was a member of Covington Baptist Church where as a young man he helped his grandfather, Mr. John Leighton, ring the bell on Sunday mornings and ride up and down on the bellrope.
In addition to his wife, Nancy, Mr. Simmons is survived by a son, Justin Curtis Sizemore and wife, Ashley Burns of Covington; a granddaughter, Kaleigh Renee (Girly) Sizemore; two brothers-in-law, Robert Knighton of New Jersey and Steve McCormack of Covington; two sisters-in-law, Roxanne Knighton of New Jersey and Susan Curtis of Clifton Forge; two nieces, Brandi McCormack of Covington and Alyssa DeAngelis of New Jersey; three nephews, Jeremy Curtis of Clifton, Tyler Knighton of New Jersey and Matt DeAngelis of New Jersey; and his special friend and brother, Sam Feury of Covington.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Simmons was preceded in death by his sister, Vickie Renee Simmons; a brother -in-law, Glenn Curtis; and a sister-in-law, Gabby McCormack.
