Eldean E. Campbell
Joan “Eldean” Edwards Campbell, 84, of Martinsville, Virginia, passed away Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at her home. She was born July 27, 1941, in Patrick County, Virginia, to Jesse Gene Edwards and Docia Hawks Edwards, both deceased.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her daughter, Carol Denise Reynolds; sisters, Catherine Belle, Barbara Jean Hopkins, Maxine Handy, Elaine Gardner; and brother, Jim Edwards.
Eldean was a woman of Christian faith whose love, kindness, and unwavering devotion touched the lives of many. A 1960 graduate of Hardin Reynolds High School, she spent many years working in the printing industry before later serving in retail until her retirement. During her school years, she enjoyed playing basketball, a pastime that reflected her energetic spirit. Blessed with remarkable creativity, Eldean enjoyed crafting and sewing and was an accomplished seamstress and quilter. Every carefully stitched creation reflected both her talent and the love she poured into her work.
Her greatest joy, however, was her family. She took pride in keeping a welcoming and beautifully maintained home where her amazing homemade meals were always prepared with love. Eldean found happiness in life's simple pleasures—chocolate, tending her flowers, decorating her home, and whistling her favorite hymn. She will be remembered for her caring heart and the lasting impact she made on those who knew and loved her.
Her loving husband of 46 years, Edgar “Ed” Campbell was the recipient of her constant love and devotion. Others who will honor and cherish her memory are her daughters, Joan Christine “Christi” Reynolds, Wendy Campbell; son, Jonathan Campbell; sister, Ethylene Nelson; brother, Douglas Edwards; grandchildren, Erica Foster, Jacob Belcher, Ethan Hurst, Hannah Hurst; great-grandchildren, Gabriel Foster, Izzy Foster; and several nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
The family would like to express their deep gratitude for the loving care given to Eldean by Mountain Valley Hospice. Ebony, Taylor, and Chantea ensured that the end of her earthly journey was filled with love, dignity, and respect.
A graveside service will be held Sunday, July 19, 2026, at 3:00 PM at Patrick Memorial Gardens, 20937 Jeb Stuart Highway, Stuart, Virginia 24171, with Pastor Blake Edwards officiating.
