Eliza Oertel Duncan

Eliza Oertel Duncan, age 99, of Lynchburg, Virginia went to be with The Lord Sunday, October 20, 2024. She was the daughter of the late Willie Oertel, Sr., and Allie Iona Browning Oertel.Born April 10, 1925 Eliza was the last surviving member of her twelve sibling family. She was well known for many attributes, none the least of which was her love for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. A long-time supporter, and dedicated wife of a Marine, Eliza was an amazing mother to her four children. She loved to play card games, and was quite fond of putting together photo albums to commemorate life's events. Eliza was very family oriented, and that showed through her love toward her grand and great-grandchildren. She always made sure everyone ate properly and loved to cook to ensure they did. Eliza will leave a lasting mark on all those who knew her.Those left to cherish Eliza’s memory include her children Roy Duncan, Jr., Michael Duncan and his wife Linda, Linda Hays and her husband Bill, Kelly Good and her husband Christopher; her grandchildren Jennifer Hays and her husband Subodh Samudre, Sarah Hays, and Michael Duncan and his wife Ellie, Amy Horsely and her husband David, Copper Good and Camden Good; and her great-grandchildren April, James and Daniel Duncan.Eliza was preceded in passing by her beloved husband Roy Wallace Duncan, Sr.; and her siblings Willie Oertel, Jr., Theresa Shelton, Joyce Ingle, Robert Oertel, Dorothy Lynn, Gladys Orange, Bula Tunstall, Minnie Taylor, Walter Oertel, Christine Frazier, and infant sister Nancy Mildred.A celebration of Eliza’s life service will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at 11:00 am at Whitten Timberlake Chapel officiated by Pastor James Alley and Pastor Larry Brodie. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service. A graveside service will be held after the service at Cumberland Presbyterian Cemetery at 2:30pm.
