Elizabeth "Gerry" G. Martin

December 15, 1930 - June 30, 2025

Elizabeth Geraldine “Gerry” Sarver Martin ,94, passed peacefully on June 30, 2025. She was born on December 15, 1930 to Louie and Mary Sarver in Ironto, VA. She is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Norris W. Martin, her parents, brother and sister-in-law Edward and Alberta Sarver and in-laws Lawrence and Barbara Martin, Leon and Josephine Martin, Fred Martin, Lowell Bower, Charlotte Martin, and Rachel Martin.

Gerry attended Shawsville High School where she was a cheerleader for the Shawnees. For the majority of her career, she worked in retail at Kmart in Salem where she retired. Known for her cake baking and decorating talents, many in the Salem community and beyond have enjoyed cakes for all occasions made by Gerry. She had a love of travel and enjoyed traveling with the Roanoke Parks and Recreation and the GE Retirees. Her favorite place to visit was the beach where she loved to walk along the shore.

She was an active member of Masons Cove Church of the Brethren. Gerry and Norris were recognized for over 40 years of volunteer service to Camp Bethel in Fincastle. She also volunteered at the Community Christmas Store. Gerry was a life-member of the Fort Lewis Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.

Gerry is survived by her daughter, Angela G. Martin of Salem and her son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Kay Martin of Roanoke. She will also be dearly missed by her dog, Maggie. She is also survived by in-laws Betty Martin Bower, Clara Martin, Dale Martin, and Shirley Noell Martin, along with many beloved nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff of Lewis Gale Hospital 3W and 6W, Dr. Nava Ratna, Dr. Stewart Hargrove, and Dr. Richard Prokopchak for the care she received.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 6th from 2-5pm at Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road. Services will be on Monday, July 7th at 11 am in the Chapel of Simpson Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Powers, Rev. Charles DeHart and Barry Lenoir officiating. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Gardens.
