Elva Walker Cundiff
Elva Walker Cundiff, 95, of Rocky Mount, passed away peacefully on Tuesday afternoon, September 30, 2025 in her home. Born on September 3, 1930, in Franklin County, she was the cherished daughter of the late Robert and Roberta Walker. Elva was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 55 years, Williams Joseph “Billy” Cundiff; her granddaughter, Julie Harrison; as well as her six brothers: Russell, Lacy, Herman, Cliff, Howard, and her twin, Bud Walker.
A longtime member of Woodlawn Baptist Church, Elva was a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She will be fondly remembered for her remarkable talents in sewing and quilting, and above all, for the deep love and pride she took in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her spunky spirit and fun-loving personality touched everyone around her, leaving a legacy of joy, warmth, and kindness. The love and support of our family and friends have been a true blessing during this time.
Elva’s values of generosity, creativity, and resilience have been passed down to her family, who will continue to honor her memory in their daily lives. She is survived by her two sons and daughter-in-law: William Donnie Cundiff (Carolyn) and Freddie Joseph Cundiff. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren include Jennifer Williams (Troy), Spencer, and Conner of Forest, Virginia; Brooke Harrison and Trey Harrison of Rocky Mount; and her great-great-grandchildren, Asher Harrison and Khaven Walker.
The family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of support, kindness, and memories shared by friends and loved ones. Your kind words and gestures have meant so much to us during this time. We invite you to share your favorite stories about Elva, as these memories bring us comfort and help us celebrate a life that continues to inspire and uplift. Our special thanks go to the team at Carilion Hospice—Hannah, Stephanie, Helen, Sabrina, and Amanda—and to her special caregiver, Diane, who was an angel from heaven during this time.
Funeral services will be held at Flora Funeral Chapel, 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 3, 2025. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends one hour prior to service. The family welcomes all who wish to join in honoring Elva’s life and legacy. May her memory continue to bring comfort, inspiration, and joy to all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Woodlawn Baptist Church or Saint Jude's Children Hospital.
